Hi
Hello folks,
I own BassGuitar.com and am very interested in standing up a FOREM based community for Bass Guitar enthusiasts. I also manage a Facebook page for BassGuitar.com that has 17K followers so there is a seed community to be drawn on.
My hope is to find a team of developers who are familair with the FOREM platfrom and who also are interested in a musician centered social network.
While I don't have any dev or product management skills, I do have a lot I can bring to the effort in a few critical areas.
All the best,
Ron Sheridan
Hey Ron,
Really awesome to hear about your community!
I'm a singer/guitarist so naturally have created a Forem for synthesizer enthusiasts called synthusiasts.club. π
I'm no bassist (yet!) but just give me time.
Anyway, I definitely think Forem has a bright future for hosting music-focused communities. The ability to easily embed YouTube videos and Soundcloud within posts is pretty dang sweet!
For instance, here's my band (commencing shameless promotion...):
And a really cool jam by Victor Wooten:
If you have any questions about Forem, don't hesitate to hit me up! You can visit my profile:

Hello again Michael,
Would it be possible to arrange a brief chat with you?
I want very much to find some help standing up a BassGuitar.com community using FOREM.
For example are you aware of a FORM community member who might be able to assist me on a contract basis or other arrangement?
All the best,
Ron Sheridan

Hey Ron!
Apologies for the delayed response. I took a long weekend trip to see some family... anywho, back in action now. π
I'd love to schedule a time to chat with you!
I'll shoot you an email and we'll figure out a good time to meet up.
Just a heads up that I may need to wait until next week to meet, because this week my team is hosting a conference called CodeLand so it's kind of all hands on deck right now.
Anywho, I'll be in touch and we'll find time to meet soon!
All good Michael,
Thanks for the reply!
You ok planning a call for next week?
I'll make time.
All the best,
Ron Sheridan

Awesome! We'll get some time in the books. Emailing ya now!
Sorry for the delayed reply :(
Get this, I don't play Bass either, I'm a drummer.
I checked out and joined your Synth community. So you've already learned a bit.
Any chance you'd jump on a screen call w me and share you FOREM experiences and thoughts?
I am eager to stand up a BassGuitar.com community and def need some help.
Have a great weekend.
Haha! Well look at us... a drummer starting a bass community. And a guitarist/singer starting a synth community. Love it! π
Bassguitar.com SSL certificate is expired FYI
Thank you, Larry!
It's time for forem to have another baby!
I'm willing to self-host Forem on DigitalOcean and create a discussion board for the legaltech industry.
Hopefully, also contribute by doing some i18n work (I see not much has being done there yet)
Hey Yaroslav,
This sounds awesome!
The legaltech industry sounds like a cool niche to target.
Please let us know how ya get on and if you need any help, just ask away via the #help tag:
#help
And I'll be sure to pass on the feedback to the team that i18n is in demand.
#help
So, I want to host an instance of Forem and so far it's being a bit more complex than expected...
I've created a DigitalOcean and am following the forem/selfhost instructions
I'm a bit stuck here
Once DNS is pointed at your Forem VM, you will need to restart the Forem Traefik service (sudo systemctl restart forem-traefik.service) via SSH on your Forem server (github.com/forem/selfhost#ssh-exam...) to generate a TLS cert.
I don't get it: what password can I use to enter inside here:
ssh core@<SERVER IP ADDRESS>
#help
Hey Yaroslav,
I'm really sorry for leaving you hanging here!
And, I should've been more clear. You can post this as an article under the #help tag and someone from the team will be happy to assist. Here's an article that explains how to post.
But in this instance, I'm going to loop in @coffeecraftcode to help out with your question here!
Hey @yshmarov I can help. Can you let me know what the last step you did was? I think you might be in the wrong part of the self-host docs but I want to make sure before giving advice.
Are you following the instructions here github.com/forem/selfhost#digitalo... ?
You can also check out the more in depth guide I put together on forem.dev here

Hi everyone!
I'm Dominic.
I work as a Junior Full-Stack Developer at an e-commerce agency in the UK, I am also studying at the Open University. I mainly code in Javascript, Python, CSS and Elm but also dabble in other languages. I co-organise a Twitter chat on art, design and technology.
I am passionate about online community building and have registered for the Codeland workshops on setting up a self-hosted Forem as I am super interested in the Forem platform and am keen to see it from the other side, as it were!
Glad you could join us, @dominicduffin1 ! Sorry for the super-slow response to your comment βΊοΈ Hope you've been having fun learning about Forem in the workshops.
Hi Everyone,
Tim here from Singapore. I have been on the search for a good open source forum platform, but have only found discourse back then.
I found this on a article on top open source forums and its interesting to see such a design for a forum.
I have just successfully hosted my forem on UpCloud. Can't wait to get tinkering with the various capabilities of forem.
Thank you @forem for giving us a better option and better user centric design.
Catch you guys around.
Hey @noeltim - welcome, and congrats on successfully hosting your Forem! We are glad you found us, and can't wait to see more from you and your community!
Thanks @ellativity
Hi I am from the land of the long white cloud New Zealand. My only hobby atm is leaning to code to be a game dev but I see I want to know it all lol. I have 5 kids that keep me busy too so its a juggling act. A fun fact is that I love to play jokes on my partner all the time lol and she loves me for that I think lol. My interest is building a game on blockchain so I want to start in easy then build epic, I have 20 years of playing games and have so many ideas to go epic as but I see building epic will take more than just me. I am here to learn but will work towards being a teacher as I think I will need to teach people to help them so some of them can help me build my epic games so building a forum is what I might have to do along my journey but Every Friday I will discuss a review on my path on my social media networks to help others become developers. The skill set I have that makes me good at understanding information are my Autistic traits that were probably a weakness when I was young but now since I understand them I see things differently and have over the years streamlined those skills sets and those Austic traits are a blessing today as I screen through information with ease and can see the benefits. Anyway Hi to you all and hope I can add value to this platform as I learn to code.
Hi Steven π
Welcome to Forem.dev!
This community is dedicated to helping folks who are interested in building communities on Forem. This site is actually built on Forem!
You can browse through a bunch of other Forems that have been launched right here. We don't yet have any Forems specifically for gaming devs, but hopefully very soon we will.π€
We do have a #gamedev tag on DEV, our largest Forem community that's also run by the Forem Team, so you might be interested in joining up with the community there and following this tag to regularly see game dev content! You also might like checking out posts under #unity or #unreal. If you don't find what you're looking for, you could even consider posting a question under #help to ask folks whatever it is that you might need. Generally speaking, the community at DEV is very friendly and eager to help new developers.
Similarly, we have a community specifically for new developers called CodeNewbie that you might want to join up with and talk with others about game development. This community is a bit smaller than DEV, but still very active and friendly!
Lastly, if you do decide to join multiple Forem communities, I'd suggest that you sign up with our new OAuth method, Forem passport, which will allow you to easily sign up across multiple Forems. If you do sign up, all you need to do is visit your account settings on any Forem that has it activated (e.g. dev.to/settings/account) and click βConnect Forem Accountβ at the top of the page to connect your Forem.
Anyway, if you have any questions about the Forem platform, any of our communities like DEV, Passport, or anything else, don't hesitate to get in touch!
Thank You Michael, I do a daily routine so I keep to the master plan which I will now add this Forem to keep me posted and up to date on the latest trends and how too's. I really appreciate the feedback and hope to share my experiences as I learn to be a game developer.
Hey World!
I am Nia from Colorado.
I am going to start a bootcamp at a local community college her for Front-End Software Development.
I love playing with my kids.
My favorite thing to do on the weekends is go fishing.
I joined this forem to meet other like minded souls to vibe and talk code with!
Don't be shy! Let's talk code.
Best Regards,
Nia
Hey Nia!
It's awesome to hear that you're looking to create a Front-End bootcamp for your local community college.
I just recently wrote a post called Why Forem is a good fit for hosting your college community which ya might like to check out:

Hi everyone !
I'm Rayan from Paris, France :)
I'm passionate about building technology to reduce poverty and address the United Nations sustainable development goals. A few years ago I was building a business training app for low-literate populations in India (like financial literacy for street vendors). That unfortunately didn't work out and I came back to France just in time for covid !
Since then I've been actively following people and organisations working in international development, but I often get frustrated that they mostly talk about workshops and policy briefs. What I've always wanted was participating in a community of builders and experimenters, kind of like Indie Hackers but for international development.
So I might as well kickstart that community. I started setting up Development Hackers with forem last week and right now I'm trying to figure out what to do before launching it.
I would love to connect with anyone who's curious about building tech and solving global problems. And if anyone's got tips about kickstarting a forem I'm all ears !
Thanks !
This is all so awesome, Rayan!
I know I met you already on your Forem, but really awesome to have you here. π
The mission behind your community sounds amazing and is definitely in line with our values as a company. We're honored to have you build this community on Forem. π
This week is a bit busy for me, but I'm going to reach out to ya here soon and see if we might be able to meet up so that I can give you a general walkthrough of the Forem platform, learn more about your community, and gather any feedback you have for us about your experience thus far.
I'll be in touch in the near future. Until then, hope all is well!
Salut Rayan !
I'm Ella, and I'm a few hours away from you in Bretagne βΊοΈ
I'm in Michael's team at Forem and also excited to hear about your Forem. I can heavily relate to your pain here (got a job with an international development NGO straight out of college but felt the same frustrations and left shortly afterwards to work directly with communities). Your business training app sounds a lot like Paulo Friere's work.
I just joined your Forem - excited to see where this goes !
Salut Ella :)
Happy to hear the message resonates with you too !
We'll build a productive and positive community for people who want to get things done in international development π

Hello everyon!
My name is Phuc, from Vietnam.
I am a mobile/web engineer.
I am here to learn about forem and use this great framework(?)/platform to build a local (Vietnamese) community.
I am willing to contribute to the codebase if allowed.
Thanks!
Hey @thphuc - we're glad you made it!
Looking forward to seeing your community get up and running on Forem.
And, of course, you're welcome to contribute to the codebase - paging @coffeecraftcode who manages our OSS contributions to make the introduction π
