Hey everyone, I'll be sharing a more regular heartbeat of updates here on Forem.dev going forward.
I'd like to share a few updates coming to the "Action Toolbar" β the section to the left of posts where you leave reactions and open the ...
dropdown menu.
We are:
- Removing the unicorn reaction as a required reaction type
- Adding in an indicator for the # of comments on a post
- Planning to re-introduce customizable secondary reactions which you -- as an Admin -- can define for your community
The historical data of Unicorn reactions in your community will not be affected. And, if you re-enable Unicorns as one of your chosen reactions in the future, they'll show up as expected for your community members.
You can read more here:
https://dev.to/devteam/our-dear-unicorn-friend-is-going-on-vacation-idm
This change will allow you to present your community members with the set of secondary reactions that make most sense to the subject matter of your Forem.
Maybe that will be π€ for thought provoking pieces, π for exciting news, π for your data-oriented write-ups, or anything/everything in between.
We'll share more details about the re-introduction of a customized reaction picker as we make more progress on that project.
Stay tuned! π±

I love this idea! Pressing that unicorn button has been fun but this change is very welcome.

I just wonder why some functions that seem obviously unnecessary (like the unicorn, as there is already a like button) or needed (like custom font, custom css file, languages, etc) to common forums are not provided or not supported for customization in the past days, and finally they ended up listed here as an surprising update.
So... when?
It is better to record a video lesson with the installation of Forum on VDS. I've been struggling with mistakes for days :(
