Since a Forem can have hundreds or even thousands of tags, wouldn't it be a good idea to put a search bar on the Tags page?
Example: a Forem that has 5,000 tags, each tag being a City. Users would want to be able to easily search for a particular city and go to that tag page, rather than having to scroll through hundreds of tags or using CTRL+F in the browser.

This is a good one, Andy!
I could totally see the benefit of us adding tags to /search. I'll bring this one up to the team.
This does bring up the clarity of what is being asked:
It is possible to either add tags to search or add search to tags...
I think the best way to do this is adding tag as a filter for search... But within that the tag page itself could have a prompt to search within the tag, which could have the user land on the search page with that tag selected.
1) Add search to tags list page
This feature is a must-have in my opinion.
Use case: A forem has 5000 tags. It is a community to discuss stocks. Each tag is one stock symbol (ex: TSLA). A user goes to the tags page to see what's available. They want to start following 20 stocks. So they will go to the search bar on the Tags page, and type in "TSLA" and then follow that tag. Then they will search for "AAPL" and then follow that tag. Then they will search for "GOOG" and then follow that tag. Etc etc etc.
2) Add tags as filter for search (in the global search bar)
I can't think of a great use case for this one.
Use case: A user is new to Forem. They want to find the discussion for TSLA. They search for TSLA and the default results show all Posts with "TSLA" mentioned. If there is a tag name "TSLA" then it shows as the post metadata in the search results.
3) Add search bar within Tag page
This feature is a must-have in my opinion.
Use case: A user is on the TSLA tag page. They want to search for a very particular topic within the tag page: "TSLA Q2 earnings report". The user can now easily search for any specific topics within any tag page they follow, rather than having to go through the global search.
This is very similar to the search feature on Facebook. There is a global search bar, as well as a private search bar within each facebook group.
Good point! It's also possible that what's being proposed here is adding search to
/tags
rather than individual tag pages.I really love the idea of being able to search within a tag though.
I believe this would be a great approach
What would be even more amazing about this approach is that being able to add multiple tags to a single search, would allow you to just view the overlap of those tags without specific search terms. In the example of cities, you could search #chicago #pizza and get to the precise information that you want.
Oh wow, this is an awesome byproduct of that approach. Being able to cross-reference multiple tags within one search would be such a powerful search option!
