What would help you build your community?

First up, let me boost @rayan's post here, if you haven't read it already, Rayan shares some of the resources that he's found helpful in growing Development Hackers and asks for your advice. Jump into the comments and advise away!

That post was the sign I needed to ask this question, which I've had brewing for some time.

What resources, connections, insights, or content would help you build your community?

For those of you who don't know much about me, I've been working in communities for over 20 years, both online and in person. I have learned a lot of painful lessons, collected a ton of resources and connections, and love nothing more than to share these with other community builders!

I'm aware that I came to this space long after many of you did, and you were building your communities before we met. I want you all to believe that you are the experts of your own communities, and you understand what you're building better than anyone else. But I also want to equip you with whatever tools I can to help you succeed - so tell me what you think you need and I will endeavor to provide! Can't wait to hear from you!

👋 Knowing more about how to ignite and fund the cross posting flywheel would be good, what was the playbook for Dev / Codenewbies etc, also ensuring that we are doing everything right for Google SEO and ranking for certain topics and search queries.

I'll have a think about some other stuff, but definately a zoom meeting with other creators sharing ideas would be cool :D

I can see member export has been added 🎉 this is great! As a second step I think enabling the optional selection of all the user table data would be brilliant, so I can then easily pick out data to assign badges based on activity, publishing, comments etc.

I think it would be useful to create a list of communities that publish their own newsletters. Looking at different newsletter examples would be valuable when a community is thinking about how to set up their own.

Interviews + podcasts with community founders/managers are always insightful.

I also think it would be cool if Forem community managers got together for a zoom call or Twitter space once a month to have an open discussion and share valuable info/stories about growing their communities.

Thanks @lee and @ildi for those thoughtful responses!

I added a post about a free, async community summit happening this week, with a ton of really helpful content that addresses some of your questions.

Let me know if any of those talks jump out at you and I'll follow up with the presenter.

Ildi, let's talk about this recurring Forem Creator chat idea: would a Zoom work for this? I also like other browser-based meeting tools like Whereby and Toucan, if you'd prefer to switch up the environment every so often.

@ellativity thank you for sharing that event with us!

As for the recurring Forem creator meetup idea, I’m open to using any platform or tool, I’ve personally never used Whereby or Toucan but I will now that you’ve mentioned them. You know me, I love testing out different tools 😇

It’s a good idea to also get @lee and @rayan to chime in on this.
