Migrating to Forem

Excited to be here. I already have a growing community of couple hundred folks of QA (especially performance testers) at https://community.qainsights.com/. Backbone of my community platform leverages Tribe.so.

I am in dilemma whether to migrate my users to Forem (yet to submit the application).

  • How much will it cost to handle the hosting once Forem comes out of beta?
  • How can I migrate the existing contents to Forem?

Thoughts? πŸ™

I suspect pricing will be in a similar tier to Tribe.so, but we most likely won't provide an entirely free forever tier in the near term because of the way we run individual compartmentalized apps.

We'll try and get more info on that in the near future.

  • How can I migrate the existing contents to Forem?

A migration from Tribe to Forem is probably an ecosystem application we could support. I'm not sure we'd build it ourselves, but maybe it could become a dedicated app within the ecosystem and we'd make sure to provide all necessary APIs.

In the short term we may be able to help the process ourselves. We've done some one-offs in this area. In terms of migrating the userbase we have tools we can use, but we'll need to put our heads together to get it right.

So glad you're excited about Forem and we can't wait to tackle these issues together with our services and the open source ecosystem!

Many thanks Ben for your insights. Actually I got tribe.so at one time cost including the few premium apps. In terms of performance, I really like dev.to and forem.dev :)
I will keep exploring forem. πŸ™
