Make DEV.to capable of being a standalone web app on iOS

Feature request

Summary

Simply make the DEV.to site capable of being fullscreen when it is "Added to the Home Screen" on iOS. There’s only a single line of code needed to achieve that:

<meta name="apple-mobile-web-app-capable" content="yes">
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

Why is it needed?

Makes the experience of using DEV.to more immersive and like an actual app, but with all the benefits on a website.

Hey @oskarcodes thanks for taking the time to write this feature request and bring this issue to our attention.

Before moving on, I want to check with you whether using the Forem iOS app would resolve this for you?

Well yes the iOS application does solve this issue, but adding this would be beneficial as well as this is not an issue that needs resolving but rather a new feature to add.

Does the same app exist for Android also? I saw a Dev Community app, but not sure if that's the same Forem app or not?

Hey @andyw , I'll just quote what @coffeecraftcode said in response to another question about this:

We do not currently have a supported Android app for Forem.
We recently hired an Android developer who will be working on it but at this time it is not completed.

If you're curious, you can tune into this stream where @coffeecraftcode discusses the Android app in a little more detail with @nickytonline , @fdoxyz and @joshpuetz around the 58:20 timestamp:
