A Serene Getaway to Heacham Beach, Norfolk

Rediscovering Peace and Quality Time Together

In mid-May, we took a much-needed break on Heacham Beach in Norfolk, right before heading to France to explore potential venues for our "Marry Me in France" wedding. Although we initially considered a French location, we ultimately chose something closer to home. This brief getaway gave us the chance to step away from the hectic routines of everyday life and spend quality time together—something that every couple can truly benefit from. It’s easy to forget the importance of spending time away from the usual distractions, like laptops and televisions, and enjoying the fresh, rejuvenating sea air.

Taking time to unwind in such a peaceful environment really makes you appreciate how important these moments of relaxation can be. The calming sound of the waves, the salty breeze, and the open sky provided the perfect setting for us to recharge and reconnect. In a world where we’re always on the go, this little slice of calm was exactly what we needed.

The Beauty of Heacham Beach and Norfolk Sunsets

Heacham Beach, which stretches along the Norfolk coastline, overlooks The Wash—a unique square-mouthed bay and estuary on the east coast of England. We had the pleasure of staying at a small holiday home owned by JMG’s mum and grandmother, just a stone's throw away from the beach. With its quiet, laid-back charm, Heacham is the ideal spot to relax and soak up the beauty of nature.

One of the most magical things about Heacham is its breathtaking sunsets. Every evening, the Norfolk sky puts on an incredible display as the sun dips beneath the horizon, filling the sky with vibrant shades of orange, pink, and purple. It became a daily ritual for us to head down to the beach to witness the sunset in all its glory. There's something truly special about watching the day close in such a peaceful, scenic setting—it makes you feel connected to the world around you.

The beach itself offers a wonderful sense of openness, with its vast stretches of sand and gentle waves lapping at the shore. Whether you’re there for a leisurely walk or simply to sit and admire the view, the serenity of Heacham Beach is hard to beat.

Packing for an English Seaside Escape

When planning a trip to the British coast, you can never be too sure about the weather. To prepare for anything, I packed a few practical yet stylish pieces that suited the breezy seaside conditions. My old pair of DIY Levi’s cutoffs made an appearance—comfortable and casual, they were perfect for a relaxed day by the beach.

For a bit of flair, I paired the shorts with my Cotswold blue Dawson D Rose Lonsdale top, which features an adorable Toile de Jouy print that adds a touch of vintage charm. The soft, airy fabric was ideal for the changeable British weather, keeping me comfortable whether the sun was out or hiding behind the clouds.

Completing the outfit was my Danielle Foster Caity black leather rucksack, a versatile accessory that held all the essentials for our beach walks and evening sunset-watching. I was especially pleased to find that this stylish and functional bag was on sale at Young British Designers, making it a steal for anyone in need of a fashionable and practical carry-all.

The Importance of Taking Time to Recharge

Looking back, this brief escape to Heacham Beach was exactly what we needed. It allowed us to step back from the pressures of everyday life, reconnect with each other, and simply enjoy the beauty of our surroundings. Whether you're in the midst of planning a big event like a wedding or just feeling overwhelmed by the daily grind, taking time out to breathe and recharge can do wonders for your well-being.

Heacham Beach, with its peaceful atmosphere, natural beauty, and spectacular sunsets, provided the perfect backdrop for our mini-break. While our original plan was to head off to France to scout wedding venues, this time spent closer to home reminded us that sometimes, the best moments happen when we slow down and appreciate what’s right in front of us.

In the end, this getaway wasn't just about finding a wedding venue—it was about rediscovering the value of quality time together and enjoying the simple pleasures that life has to offer.
