I recently deployed forem but I'm having issue with making the story feed public. At the moment it requires a user to sign in to see the feed.
Is there a way to not have to be signed in to see the feed?

Check out the Public settings under Admin > Customization > Config > User Experience and Brand (documentation for that section can be found here)

Also, under Admin > Customization > Config > Authentication make sure that your Forem instance is NOT in invite-only mode:
We do use the value of this setting in a few places to determine if a Forem instance is considered private or not. I know it's confusing to have two similar options and I already started a discussion about standardizing around one.
For the feed the setting @ellativity suggested works but to avoid other suprises you should make sure that these two settings agree for the time being.
