Hi, I'm thinking about moving our community from Discourse to Forem. Is there any documentation on how to do this? What would you recommend?

I'm incredibly excited about FOREM as I am ready to create a community/marketplace for Bass Guitar enthusiasts.

I already own the ideal domain (imo) BassGuitar.com, which currently redirects to a Facebok page: facebook.com/BassGuitarDotCom - and has 17k+ followers and 1 great content editor who manages the page.

Since I am not a developer I need to find people who are interested in and able to help starting on the dev side.

Once I get the BassGuitar.com communitiy live, my plan to then build and launch a similar community for Guitar Enthusiasts since I own UsedGuitars.com, GuitarPlayers.com and GuitarStore.com.

Very much just a few words! I lived and worked in The Netherlands for a few years, dus ik kan een beetje Nederlands spreken maar niet zo veel.

Happy to see you've started exploring the self-hosting option with Google Cloud! You've been doing a great job asking your questions in the thread, so keep it up! Sending you some encouragement!

Have a little encourage-mint!

Hej @maartengoddijn dat klinkt gezellig!

We recommend checking out @coffeecraftcode's intro to self-host to get a feel for the process and its requirements. That might help you figure out if it's for you, or whether Forem Cloud is a better option.

Will do, thanks! I filled up the interest form to operate a Forem, is that still valid or do we just fork the repo and go from there?

If you filled out the form you will be contacted, but of course we won't stop you forking our open source repo!

I just found this forem yesterday while browsing google for opensource forum software. Neat and clean forum. I started this blog/forum website pitalk.com but i feel like something is missing. I run a small community group on facebook with almost 4k members and growing. I love the design of this forum and I hope I can try it out.

Hey, I lives in india and at here there are some exams conducted every year for college addmission. Two major exams are called JEE and NEET but unfortunately there is no platform for them. Even I suffered from this problem. So I want that approx 5 million students can discuss about this exams at one place. So I want to create forum based on forem.

Hi my name is Aaron. I'm the founder of a news organization and crypto project called HEADLINE. We're using artificial intelligence and proof of stake blockchains to create a next-generation unbiased news platform. We have 3500 account holders and growing rapidly. A key project feature will be an integrated social media portal that operates under similar unbiased guidelines. When I discovered Forem I was absolutely blown away by it. It is (IMO) a superior product to Facebook.

I've always believed that a major underlying problem with Facebook is the idea that social media platforms should be infinitely scalable. Niche communities are far more healthy and productive environments, just look at Reddit for example. You can have 10 million people in a subreddit but the quality of interaction is often much greater because members are motivated to enhance discussion not detract from it.

But until now there was no legitimate alternative to the big show. The fact that Forem developers are making it open source is astonishing. If social media life cycles are iterative, then Forem could very well be social media 4.0. Blogspot/Xanga, MySpace, Facebook/Twitter, Forem.

To summarize, I just want to say that I think Forem might be one of the most impressive products, with the most potential that I've ever seen on the internet. Now if only I could spin up a demo without ripping my hair out.

Last night I spent about 8 hours trying with Gitpod, Heroku, and VSCode. What made it even more frustrating is that Dev.To has a one-click spinup for their proprietary version. Would love to see this made available for Forem's third party devs. Here's a few links to the HEADLINE project:

HiπŸ™‚. I’m interested in building a community with forem.

  • It will serve students and developers but mostly students.

  • Yes it does exist.

  • The fact that the students can have a place that’s user friendly and can ask anything or publish and not have any issues with it. And growing their network too. And even after a year whatever information they asked about or shared will still be there.

  • speacial features? Might be a bit too much butπŸ™‚ Categorised weekly/monthly challenges and students/users can solve and maybe get a badge afterπŸ™‚.

I'm looking forward to and am so excited for Forem! I'm looking to start a 100% open-sourced bootstrap template community running on Forem!

I love Forem's ultra-customize-able features, as well as just the fact that it seems like an all-in one software!

Hey there, I've been thinking about creating a community for a particular group of people for a long time. Used to run one in the 00s, sold it when Facebook came along.

It's a small community of aviation photographers and forem would be part of a platform:

  • Magazine
  • Forum
  • Archive

We're looking into several open source solutions and possibly building our own (we're a software development team).

Also interested in helping out with forem dev.

Looking forward to see where this is headed!

Hello everyone :)
I'm very happy to be here.

I'm going to use the "kick-start conversation" questions :)

Who will your community serve?
Our mission is to inspire everyone to succeed in technology careers and our primary goal is to be inclusive to the largest number of contributors, with the most varied and diverse backgrounds possible.

Does it exist already, or are you starting something new?
I founded a community called CodeJourneys few months ago and it's still in it's early stage: more or less 400 users on Slack and we are weekly hosting "live coding sessions" about frontend-development related topics.

What gets you excited about building with Forem?
I think it's a perfect tool for a community or learners!
And I really love the community behind it and I'd love to be part of it.

Do you have any specific feature requests?
Not yet :)
