As @ben
wrote in this comment, we have no plans to add AdSense (or similar) advertising to Forem in the foreseeable future:
We're not interested in adopting any third party ad networks which bring privacy or UX concerns with them
However, we would enthusiastically encourage you to reflect on how a more progressive form of web monetization could help you work towards your goals, while not compromising the privacy of your users.
The micropayments feature is indeed our solution for offering authors a way to monetize their work. If I'm not mistaken, a site-wide payment pointer must first be set by Forem admin before individual payment pointers can be set from the profile.
EDIT: I am mistaken π ... you no longer need to have a site-wide payment pointer set in order for individuals to set their payment pointers. Just tested it out and this issue has been solved. π
To set a site-wide payment pointer, the admin should go to admin/customization/config and select "Monetization" then enter their Uphold payment pointer that they want to monetize across the site and save.
It sounds like what you're looking for is the micropayments feature you can find under your own profile here on Forem.dev (scroll down to Web monetization), that all Forems come with as default.

Well said! Just got a tiny bit to add here...

Ahaa, I just noticed that.
Thanks for reply.
